This week saw the final events in the junior season calendar and rounded off what has been a great summer for the junior section which I hope you have all enjoyed as much as I have.
Junior Presentation Evening
Thanks to all those who came along last Monday to our presentation evening where we thanked all those people who have helped to make the season a success and recognised the achievements of our young players.
Thanks again to Sarah Kelly for doing the food on the night and the BBQ every Monday; Dave Lea for doing the bar; Andrew Cameron, our superb groundsman; Jan Witheridge and Mark Overton for running the Tarka Girls; Barney Huxtable, Brett Mason, Kyle Verreynne, Russ Young and all those who helped with coaching; and the team managers: Clare Arthur, Rob Meech, Adrian Scarrett, Steve Popham and Dave Rothery.
The award winners this year were extremely difficult to choose as so many players have contributed so much to our successes across all the age groups this year. A massive well done to the following:
Age Group | Bowler | Batsman | Fielder | Most Improved | Club Player |
U9 | Josh Arthur | Amos Waters | Navindu Vanderbona | Finley Haste | Leighton Fairbrother |
U10 | Ben Carter | Ollie George | Jack Balsdon | Aaron Johnson | Oscar Meech |
U11 | James Evans | Will Popham | Ben Scarrett | Toby Shephard-Blandy | Sion Grand |
U13 | Nathan Ware | Sam Wright | Sam Copsey | Joe Thompson | Ethan Cross |
U15 | Alex Heath | Jay Rothery | Fred Clements | Kevin Johnson | Isaac Windley |
U11s Round Off Season in Superb Style
Firstly a big well done to Adrian for managing to re-arrange and complete the remaining fixtures for the U11s.
The U11s signed off in fantastic style last Thursday defeating Chulmleigh by 69 runs and leaping to 2nd in the table. They posted their highest total of the season (170-2) and then bowled extremely tightly restricting Chulmleigh to just 5 off the first 5 overs who finished some way short of our total on 101-5. Another great team performance with three batsmen retiring (Ben Scarrett – 31, Alex Wright – 32 and Rohan Cross – 33). Ben Scarrett then took 2 for 4 in 3 overs (thanks to two amazing catches, one by Will Popham in the slips and one at point by Henry Ayre). Well done all!
