2016 was a successful year for North Devon Cricket Club 1st XI in many ways; we were North Devon T20 champions and finished fifth in the Devon Premier Division. Kyle Verreynne was third top scorer in the Premier League with 628 runs, closely followed by Tom Ansell who also featured in the top ten.
Thank you to Barney for skippering the side for the last 2 years, I am now beginning to understand the scale of the role. I know everyone at the club appreciates your efforts and we all hope to see you again at Instow soon. Best of look for the new season at Port Talbot.
Looking forward to the 2017 season, I am personally excited about what is to come. We have a similar squad to last year but strengthened by the return of Jack Popham from Gloucestershire along with his brother Tom. We have Josh King who has now established himself in the Devon team and continues to provide strength with both bat and ball.
The squad is bolstered by the arrival of Callum Hotham from Bathurst, New South Wales. Callum is a promising wicket keeper batsman who has spent the last two summers in England playing for Glastonbury CC. Last season he scored over 500 runs averaging nearly 40, we hope he brings this form with him to North Devon.
This season we have a group of promising young local cricketers who will form the nucleus of the side. I am really excited for the season ahead.
